Summer Term Theme

As a ‘Nature Detective’ you will find out about the wildlife and plants that live on your very own doorstep. You will need to explore lots of different environments including the school, woods, parks and ecology centres. Have fun asking questions, observing and investigating your local area and the species that live around!

  • As Scientists we will be ‘Great Plant Hunters’. We will be collecting, observing and recording in order to document how plants and animals have adapted to their surroundings.
  • As Geographers we will Use field trips to Oxleas woods and other local green spaces to allow study of local physical features and compare these to other locations and question why they are like this e.g. deserts, mountains etc
  • As Artists we will be inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy and enjoy Nature walks in school (forest school; fruit garden) and in local area (GreenwichPark; Oxleas Woods)
  • As Mathematicians we will explore outdoor maths activities by investigating patterns and sequences in nature as well as using trips to the park to measure trees.
  • As Writers we will be creating poems and stories from other cultures.

As Theologians we will study the teaching of Islam to try to understand how different members of our community make sense of the world around us.

A Caring School

A Creative Curriculum

A Rewarding Atmosphere

As a caring school we will be appreciating the beauty of nature. The joy of developing a sense of its wonder, of curiosity, and love of nature; through our exploration of local forests and woodland. We will explore the ideas of different world religions in order to understand members of our communities and celebrate our diversity. We will be inviting our parents/carers, friends and families to share in ‘World Religion’ Assemblies.

In order to develop our creativity we will be following in Darwin’s footsteps and making close observational drawings of plants and animals. As well as being inspired by the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy.

We will be working towards gaining the  Crest Award through problem solving and science. This will develop our scientific thinking skills.
