Summer Term Theme

As a ‘Nature Detective’ you will find out about the wildlife and plants that live on your very own doorstep. You will need to explore lots of different environments including the school, woods, parks and ecology centers. Have fun asking questions, observing and investigating your local area and the species that live around!

  • As Scientists we will be collecting, observing and recording in order to document how plants and animals grow and are classified.
  • As Geographers we will use field trips to Ocxleas Woods and Swanage to allow study of the physical features of one place and compare these to other locations and question why they are like this e.g. rivers and coastline etc
  • As Artists we will be inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy and enjoy nature walks in Swanage as well as locally.
  • As Mathematicians we will explore outdoor maths activities by investigating patterns and sequences in nature as well as making measurements during environmental geography.
  • As Writers we will be creating explanation texts about planst and information texts about animals.

A Rewarding Atmosphere

 As a caring school we will be appreciating the beauty of nature. The joy of developing a sense of its wonder, of curiosity, and love of nature; through our school journey to Swanage. We will explore the ideas of different world religions in order to understand members of our communities and celebrate our diversity. We will be inviting our parents/carers, friends and families to share in ‘World Religion’ Assemblies.

 In order to develop our creativity we will be following in Darwin’s footsteps and making close observational drawings of plants and animals. As well as being inspired by the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy.

 We will be working towards gaining the ‘Megastar’ Level Crest Award through problem solving and science. This will develop our scientific thinking skills.
